I was lying in a hospital bed, recovering from hip surgery and this image of a pregnant mermaid came into my head. How do they do it, I thought. My sketch pad was my companion through three weeks of physical therapy and this lovely lass was the first to come through. She still makes me smile. and I love the watery multicolor background I am able to get with this batik technique of building layers of color.
